LANSING—Yesterday, the Michigan State Legislature released its annual budget, which includes $30 million for the Clean Fuel and Charging Infrastructure program.
Electrification Coalition Senior Director of Campaigns Aaron Viles responded:
“Michigan’s legislature continues to lead the way in transitioning to an electric transportation future. This budget includes critical resources to build that future, continuing significant efforts to decrease Michigan’s use of oil and increase our energy security.
“Specifically, we’re thrilled to see $30 million for the Clean Fuel and Charging Infrastructure program. This program will expand Michigan’s EV charging network, support transit and fleet electrification, and go a long way to support public-private partnerships targeting the most challenging communities to electrify: multifamily housing and communities that have historically paid the price for oil’s monopoly on our transportation system.
“Additionally, funded programs such as the Truck Stop of the Future project, the E-Bike Incentive Program, the Inductive Charging Pilot, and the Renewable Energy and Electrification Infrastructure Enhancement and Development Program will support the state’s commitment to leading the electric transportation transition.
“While we would have liked to see programs such as the Michigan Clean Fleet Incentive and EV Purchase Incentives receive funding, we’re glad to see the governor’s efforts to electrify state fleets will continue, which will position the state to ultimately save significantly on fuel and maintenance costs as agencies work to transition to 100% zero-emissions vehicles by 2040.
“The Electrification Coalition thanks the legislature for the hard work required to finalize the State’s funding and looks forward to continuing to advocate for and support Michigan’s EV leadership.”
